ALIA LARK invites library and information professionals, academics, students, and all those interested in practice-oriented research to its biennial symposium. This full-day event, titled From Inquiry to Impact, offers a space to reflect on the relationship between research and practice, and to share ideas, experiences, and insights that shape our work and its impact across the sectors.

Call for papers for the ALIA LARK Symposium
For our 2026 symposium, titled From LIS Inquiry to Impact, LARK invites presentation proposals on all aspects of library and information practice and science, including practice-based research, research-based practice, and evidence-based librarianship. We also welcome papers on unique initiatives, case studies, and use-cases of operationalising theory into practice. We welcome papers that focus on all kinds of impact: staff impact, user impact, research impact, social impact, and impact on information practice in general.
Please submit written proposals for the following:
- Lightning Talks – short presentations (5-10 minutes) – typically, presentations on work in progress and small practice-based research projects (around 300 words, excluding references)
- Long Presentations (20 minutes) – to present results of finished projects
(around 300 words, excluding references) - Panels (30 minutes), including a group of presenters
(around 500 words, and information about all presenters)
While a limited number of proposals may be accepted for remote presentation, priority will be given to proposals for face-to-face presentations.
Proposals will be reviewed by the Program Committee. Presenters will have the opportunity to develop their presentations into full papers for publication in The Journal of the Australian Library and Information Association (JALIA) following the usual JALIA review processes, but the editors will mentor new authors who present at the symposium.

- At least one author of the paper accepted for face-to-face presentation must register.
- Presenters’ rates: early bird registrations $200, regular registrations $250 (dates to be announced)
